I was trying to get a sense of what it is like on the client side of the coin. When written strategically, your LinkedIn profile becomes your opportunity to engage with your audience and build your professional brand. I've been strongly considering removing myself from there as the leads that come in generally are for micro-projects from very small businesses vs substantial, and long-term project work.Īt any rate, I was curious to see if from the client side, if clients seeking freelancers are also just as deluged with responses when they put out a request or putting in "local" only to get freelance proposals from non- local folks. Craigslist maybe but not a LinkedIn-affiliated service. I don't have a problem if someone wants to barter *but* that's not the kind of pitch I would have expected coming from LinkedIn Profinder. ![]() The last thing he shared that was notable was that he was looking for freelancers to work for barter vs payment ? which I thought was ridiculous. When we eventually connected, he had shared that he was based in Richmond, VA (I'm in Washington DC metro area) and he had entered his request for a freelancer to be local (Richmond area) but most of his responses came from DC and Northern VA which is definitely "not local." He also said he was absolutely INUNDATED with responses and claimed to have gotten more than 100 proposals. However, the other day, I had sent a response to a proposal request and the prospective client reached out with interest. I have used Profinder as a consultant too but not often.
